Terms of Service

Quotes hold for 30 days and the price does not change unless the scope does. We ask for a deposit on hardware and the balance on completion. Cancel more than 48 hours ahead at no cost. Our workmanship is warranted and hardware carries the manufacturer warranty registered in your name. North Carolina law governs these terms.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms apply between you, the customer, and Oak City Security Cameras. They cover surveys, quotes, installation, repair, takeover and maintenance work on camera, alarm and access control systems. Accepting a quote means accepting these terms.

Where you are booking on behalf of a company, a landlord or an HOA board, you confirm you have authority to commit that organization to the work and the payment.

2. Surveys and quotes

Site surveys are free and carry no obligation. The camera plan produced at the survey is yours.

Quotes are issued in writing and valid for 30 days. They list hardware, cabling, labor, configuration and training. Anything excluded is stated on the document. A quote is not a booking: the date is confirmed once you accept in writing and any deposit has cleared.

Takeover audits on an existing system are charged, and the fee is credited in full against work booked from that report within 90 days.

3. Access and site conditions

We need safe access to the areas being worked on for the agreed window, along with power and, where remote viewing is included, working internet.

You are responsible for telling us about anything hidden that we could damage, including buried services, irrigation lines, conduit runs and wiring inside walls. Where you hold plans, please share them at the survey. We take reasonable care and cannot be responsible for damage to services we were not told about and could not reasonably detect.

Where the building is leased, obtaining landlord consent for exterior mounting, penetrations and hardware on common parts is your responsibility. We will tell you at the survey what is likely to need consent.

If we arrive for a confirmed appointment and cannot get access, a return visit may be chargeable at our hourly rate.

4. Scope changes

The quoted price holds for the quoted scope. If conditions on site differ from what the survey could reasonably establish, we stop, explain what we found and issue a written variation with a price. Work on that variation begins only once you approve it. Nothing gets added to an invoice without your prior agreement.

5. Payment

A deposit covering hardware is payable on acceptance. The balance is due on completion unless we have agreed different terms in writing.

Commercial accounts may be offered payment terms on request. Invoices unpaid beyond the agreed term may attract interest at the rate permitted by North Carolina law.

Title to hardware passes to you on full payment. Risk passes on installation. Monitoring, where you take it, is billed monthly in advance and can be cancelled with 30 days notice.

6. Cancellation and rescheduling

Cancel or move a booked date with more than 48 hours notice and there is no charge. Inside 48 hours we may charge for allocated labor and for hardware already ordered specifically for your job.

Where hardware has been ordered to your specification and cannot be returned to the supplier, that cost stands whatever the notice period.

We may reschedule for severe weather, which in this area usually means a named storm, ice or lightning risk that makes work at height unsafe. We will give you as much notice as conditions allow and rebook at the first safe opportunity, at no cost to you.

7. Warranty

Our workmanship is warranted for the period stated on your quote. That covers terminations, mounting, sealing, cable routing, programming and configuration. Call us and we return to put it right at no charge.

Hardware carries the manufacturer warranty, registered in your name so you are never dependent on us to make a claim. We will handle the claim process on your behalf during the workmanship period.

The warranty does not cover: damage caused by storm, flood, lightning or power surge beyond the protection specified; changes, additions or reconfiguration made by anyone else; physical damage, vandalism or accidental impact; consumables such as backup batteries; or faults caused by a failure of your internet service.

8. What a security system can and cannot do

A camera, alarm or access control system records events and controls doors. It is a deterrent and a source of evidence. It cannot prevent a crime, guarantee a response, or guarantee that footage will identify a person in every lighting condition.

We design to the coverage agreed at the survey and we will tell you honestly what a given camera will and will not capture. Nothing in our documents should be read as a promise that loss, damage or injury will not occur.

9. Limitation of liability

Our liability for any claim connected to work we carry out is limited to the amount you paid us for that work, except where liability cannot be limited by law, including death or personal injury caused by negligence.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit, lost stock, business interruption, or loss arising from footage that was unavailable, insufficient or unusable.

Where a monitoring center is involved, that relationship is governed by your agreement with the monitoring provider and their liability terms apply to their service.

10. Alarm registration and regulatory duties

Where your system includes a monitored alarm, registering it with the relevant local authority is your responsibility as the alarm user. The City of Raleigh requires alarm users to register and charges fees for repeat false dispatches. We will explain the current requirement and help with the paperwork, and we cannot be responsible for fines arising from an unregistered system or from false alarms caused by how the system is used.

You are the operator of your own system and responsible for compliance with recording law, including North Carolina’s one party consent rule for audio.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts sitting in Wake County, North Carolina.

Common questions

How long is a quote valid?

Thirty days from the date on the document. Camera and recorder pricing moves with supply, so beyond 30 days we will reissue rather than honor a stale figure. If you accept within the window, the price holds even if our cost has gone up in the meantime.

What happens if the job turns out bigger than quoted?

We stop and talk to you. Anything we find that changes the scope, such as a blocked cable route or a door that needs new hardware, gets priced as a written variation and needs your approval before we carry on. You will not receive an invoice with work on it you did not agree to.

What does the workmanship warranty cover?

Our installation work: cable terminations, mounting, sealing, configuration and anything that fails because of how we fitted it. It does not cover hardware faults, which go through the manufacturer warranty registered in your name, and it does not cover damage from storms, power surges outside the protection fitted, or later changes made by someone else.
